Thames Valley Police marks 25 Years of Community Policing Awards

Thames Valley Police is proud to launch the 2026 Community Policing Awards, marking a significant milestone as the awards celebrate their 25th anniversary.

For a quarter of a century, the Community Policing Awards have shone a spotlight on the extraordinary contributions of officers, staff, volunteers and community members who go above and beyond to keep our communities safe, connected and supported. 

This year’s theme, ‘celebrating the past, inspiring the future’, reflects both the legacy of the awards and their continued importance in recognising the people and partnerships that define modern policing. 

Nominations are now open, and Thames Valley Police is inviting members of the public, partners and the workforce to help recognise those making a real difference across Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire. 

Celebrating 25 Years of Community Impact 

Since their introduction, the Community Policing Awards have highlighted thousands of inspiring stories, from neighbourhood officers building lasting trust, to volunteers and cadets making a tangible difference in their communities. 

As part of this anniversary year, Thames Valley Police will be showcasing past and present winners to demonstrate the long-term impact of community policing and the relationships that underpin it. 

Assistant Chief Constable Christian Bunt said “Community policing is built on strong relationships, trust and shared purpose. For 25 years, these awards have recognised the incredible people and partnerships that make that possible. 

“This anniversary gives us a chance not only to reflect on what has been achieved, but also to celebrate those who continue to make a difference every day across our communities.” 

Policing Together - Strengthening Community Voice 

A defining feature of the awards is that they are driven by community nominations, ensuring they reflect what matters most to the people Thames Valley Police serve. 

This year, there is a renewed focus on encouraging nominations from across the workforce, partner agencies and the public, ensuring the awards continue to represent the diverse voices and experiences of our communities. 

Assistant Chief Constable Christian Bunt said “These awards are about recognising the people who make a difference locally - often quietly and without expectation.  

“We want to hear from as many people as possible about those who have gone above and beyond.” 

Shaping the Future of Policing 

While the awards recognise outstanding achievements, they also provide a platform to highlight innovation, problem-solving and leadership that will help shape the future of policing. 

From creative approaches to crime prevention, to strengthening community engagement, nominations are encouraged across all categories to showcase what works and what can be learned and shared across the force and policing more widely.  

Award Categories 

Members of the public and colleagues are encouraged to submit nominations (external link) across a wide range of categories, including:

• Police Community Support Officer (PCSO) 

• Special Constable 

• Trust & Confidence Champion 

• Cadet of the Year 

• Police Volunteer of the Year  

• Community Volunteer of the Year  

• Problem Solving and Prevention Award 

• Inspirational Leadership Award
