Callum Anderson says whilst the site is earmarked for development, it should be accessible in the mean time.
In a social media post, the Buckingham and Bletchley representative said it seems to him "there is no good reason for unused green space to remain behind locked gates".
The site has been closed for around six years, following plans for a new Sports Centre which, according to Callum Anderson have made "little meaningful progress".
He says says at the time of writing, Bucks Council's emerging Local Plan indicates the land could be used for housing, but there is no clear indication of when development will happen. He also argues reopening it would give residents access to valuable open space and restore the footpath connection to the library.
The petition calls for the council to:
- Temporarily reopen the unused parts of the former Winslow Centre green area to the public.
- Keep it consistently maintained, so it can be enjoyed by all.
- Give residents reasonable notice before any future closure is required for construction.
- Recognise the role of the Winslow Centre as an important community asset as Winslow grows.
Anderson's petition also says "building new homes is only part of creating a successful community. As Winslow grows, existing and new residents need places that bring people together. The Winslow Centre can help provide that."
