The Haddenham Lodge of Freemasons decided to thank their local medical centres and staff, with a surprise gift of flowers.
In a recent Zoom meeting, they agreed to send a gesture to the hardworking local staff of Haddenham Health Centre and Pharmacy, the Long Crendon Surgery, Paula Thompkins and her team of Vanessa Kearney and Sarah Bullimore at Stoke Mandeville Hospital, as well as donation collectors Pamela Robbins and Eden Blossom.
Member Bill Smithson, who has been actively involved during the pandemic, approached local florist Penns Flowers to arrange 35 bunches of flowers, and upon hearing the idea, owner Mick Penn, a Haddenham resident himself, wanted to help and offered a heavy discount on the flowers, which enabled the Lodge to hand out so many more.
The Freemasons secret plan was met by surprise and happy tears from hardworking NHS staff and volunteers.
One recipient of the thoughtful gift was Paula, who is coordinating donations and support for NHS staff at Stoke Mandeville Hospital.
Paula wrote to Bill and the rest of the Lodge: "Until I met you, I did think you guys were a secretive bunch, you corrected me in a delightful way!"
