It follows a blaze on Buckingham Street this weekend.
Friends of Paweł Walkiewicz, who is also recovering from recent heart surgery, started the fundraiser after the fire on Sunday (30/08) is said to have damaged his entire home whilst he was at a church service in Northampton.
Two crews from Aylesbury and one crew from Thame attended the blaze, using two hose reel jets, two breathing apparatus and a thermal imaging camera to extinguish the fire - but the flat was gutted by the fire. Miraculously though, firefighters managed to save Paweł's dog Cika, who was pulled out from the shower cubicle where she hid during the fire.
Paweł and Cika are currently staying with friend and former neighbour Laurynas Rimko, who started the fundraiser to help him with emergency accommodation, food, clothes and essentials for himself and Cika. Laurynas told us Paweł has been living in Aylesbury since May 2019, working as a skip and HGV driver until he recently had to stop due to health issues.
She says he has already fought so hard, recently undergoing heart surgery and now instead of resting and healing, he has to start all over again from nothing. Laurynas says every donation "no matter how small, means the world" and asks "if you can't give, please share".
Speaking on behalf of Pawel whilst he recovers from the incident, Laurynas says he's still in a lot of shock, trying to process "the magnitude of what happened".
She adds: "It's been an immensely tough time but when he found out that Cika was safe, it was an overwhelming sense of relief. She is his whole world, and seeing her okay has genuinely been the main thing giving him the strength to keep going right now.
"He really just wants to say a massive thank you to the whole community. All the help, kind messages, and support he's received mean the world to him, and he is so grateful to everyone who has been there for him".
