Buckland Parish Council raise concerns over speeding and safety problems

They've written to Buckinghamshire councillors Mike Collins and Steve Bowles about the issues facing the village.

It comes after a parish council meeting last Monday (12/10), with the letter written to the Buckinghamshire councillors alleging that Buckland Wharf residents’ cars have been damaged or written off after being struck by vehicles travelling down Tring Hill above the 30 MPH limit .

Buckland Parish Council described several issues in that area, claiming that it's "an accident black spot" and is regularly visited by Thames Valley Police's mobile speed van due to "the large number" of speeding vehicles.

Residents have reportedly said the issue of speeding has gotten worse since the introduction of traffic calming in Aston Clinton, saying that once vehicles have cleared the speed humps in London, they see an open road ahead and "put their foot down".

In the parish council's letter, they claim that Buckland Wharf was initially included in the plans for traffic calming, but this was removed without notification to Buckland Parish Council. They say they've been exploring options like obtaining Moveable Vehicle Activated Sign or traffic regulation orders , but explain there are financial limitations to these ideas.

The PC have also sent in an Freedom Of Information request for Thames Valley Police speed camera sessions, carried out research on accidents at  the Tring Hill junction with the Upper Icknield Way as well as outside the cottages at Buckland Wharf and looked at crashmap data and also the TVP website.

However, they say these websites do not have up to date information and allege one accident that occurred on 12/11/23 at the junction with the Upper Icknield Way, which resulted in three people in hospital is classed as “slight” despite a TVP public appeal for information.

Their letter which can be seen in full here (external), lists a host of issues in Buckland, and concludes by asking for their concerns to be passed onto colleagues and highways officers at Buckinghamshire Council to help find a solution to the traffic problems.
