Residents are calling for the speed limit through Rowsham to be reduced amid growing concerns over road safety, traffic noise and pollution.
The A418 carries a high volume of traffic through the hamlet and has been the site of several accidents. Campaigners say the current speed limit is leaving residents, pedestrians and bus users feeling increasingly vulnerable and want to see it changed to 30mph from 40.
The road is also an important bus route used by children travelling between Rowsham, Bierton, Aylesbury and Wing. Pedestrians regularly use the road, including to access the bus stop, but residents say crossing it can be difficult and intimidating because of the speed and volume of traffic.
Residents report regularly witnessing near misses, while accidents are described as a frequent occurrence. Campaigners say the current 40mph limit contributes to a road environment that feels unsafe for those living in and travelling through the hamlet.
Rowsham is now said to be the only village in the surrounding area without a 30mph speed limit, with many neighbouring villages and hamlets already benefiting from 30mph or even 20mph restrictions.
Campaigners believe reducing the limit would help slow traffic, improve road safety and reduce both the risk and potential severity of accidents. They also say it would help tackle the traffic noise and air pollution that residents experience on a daily basis.
The campaign is now seeking support from surrounding communities, including residents in Bierton, to help strengthen the call for change.
Campaigners are asking residents to sign and share their petition and show their support for a safer Rowsham.
They are urging Buckinghamshire Council to review the existing speed limit and introduce a 30mph restriction through the hamlet.
The campaigners say this would be a practical step towards making Rowsham a safer, quieter and healthier place to live, while improving conditions for pedestrians, children, bus users and other road users.
