The business says new parking enforcement measures could reduce access for customers and nearby businesses.
Howes the Florist says recent changes have prevented vehicles from using the slope beside the shop, while nearby parking areas are now being ticketed, including spaces outside a neighbouring business. They claims up to 25 parking spaces may be affected, with no clear explanation of the restrictions provided.
The owner says enforcement is being carried out under restrictions dating back to 2021, but claims there is currently no clear signage in place and that parking enforcement officers have been unable to clarify what restrictions are being applied. The business also says repeated attempts to obtain clarification from Buckinghamshire Council by email have gone unanswered.
They estimate between 15 and 25 parking spaces used by customers and neighbouring traders could be lost, with no alternative provision suggested. The business says this could have a significant impact on local trade, particularly given the long-standing use of the area for parking.
Howes the Florist has operated in Buckingham for around 70 years, including 18 years under its current ownership. It says there have been no previous issues with parking in the area during that time, and that neighbouring Buckingham Tailors has also used the same spaces for decades.
From 1 June, parking enforcement in the area is due to be transferred to an external agency, with the affected spaces understood to be treated as double yellow line restrictions.
Buckinghamshire Council have told Bucks Radio they are unable to comment the parking concerns raised.
