Beware of COVID-19 scammers

Bucks Council are making sure residents are aware of new COVID-19 related scams.

Scammers have come up with new ways to try and trick people, which include advertising face masks or medical equipment at high prices, emails or texts pretending to be from the government and people knocking at your door and asking for money for charity.

If you see emails or texts about coronavirus from someone you don't know, or from an unusual email address, don't click on any links or buy anything.

Don't give money or personal details to anyone you don't know or trust - for example someone who knocks on the door and offers to help.

You can contact Bucks Council's scams advisers if you:

  • think you might have found an online scam
  • need advice about scams
  • want to report an online scam

They'll let you know what to do next, and give you support on the issues you might be facing.

 Helpline

You can get advice from a Scams Action adviser by calling 0808 250 5050.

The service is open from Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm. Closed on bank holidays.

Calls are free from mobiles and landlines.

Online

Use a chat service to talk to a Scams Action adviser online, or book a face-to-face appointment.

Talk to an adviser

Chat is available from Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm. It's closed on bank holidays.

If you can't see a chat box on the page, it might mean there are no advisers available. It's worth waiting for a few minutes and then trying again.

We'll need to ask you for a few details, including your postcode. Read our privacy policy to find out how we store and use your personal information.

Some 'ad blocker' software stops chat working. If you use an ad blocker, make sure you add citizensadvice.org.uk as a trusted site.
