Town Council unveils a new art mural bringing positivity and inclusivity to Aylesbury

A vibrant new piece of artwork has transformed one of Aylesbury’s well-used pedestrian routes, bringing positive messages, local stories and a celebration of the Paralympic movement to the town.

A vibrant new piece of artwork has transformed one of Aylesbury’s well-used pedestrian routes, bringing positive messages, local stories and a celebration of the Paralympic movement to the town.

Created by Natalie Bartrum, the artwork has been designed to create a more welcoming, uplifting and inclusive environment for people using the underpass. The design incorporates positive messaging and welcome signs at both ends of the bridge, alongside references to the Paralympic movement and inspirational people from the local area such as Dan's Community Group and the Aylesbury Wombles.

Inclusive elements such as widgits have also been incorporated into the design, helping to make the artwork welcoming and accessible to a wider range of people.

The Mayor of Aylesbury attended the unveiling of the completed artwork, which the Town Council hopes will provide an opportunity to celebrate the work and the impact it has had on this well-used route.

The mayor said, "I was honoured to be part of the creation of this amazing mural. Opening the mural is an absolute pleasure. Thank you to Natalie, who worked hard with different groups to bring the design together, and then with volunteers to paint the base coat."

"This mural also helps bring together the Mandeville and Elm Farm estates through this well-used foot and cycle path. Stop by and see what you can spot in every part of the installation"

The bridge can be accessed from Guttmann Road or from the end of Elm Farm Road, depending on the direction of travel.
