Buckinghamshire Council has adopted new Conservation Area Appraisals and Management Plans for Buckingham, Haddenham, and Winslow, updating boundary lines to better protect and enhance the distinctive character and heritage of these Buckinghamshire towns.
Following detailed assessment, a six-week public consultation, and engagement with town and parish councils, local community groups, and residents, Buckingham's Conservation Area has been extended, while Haddenham and Winslow have seen a combination of additions and removals to ensure boundaries accurately reflect the special character of each area.
- Buckingham: The Conservation Area has been expanded in four locations. The updated area now comprises four Character Areas, defined by building topography, historical development, land use, and appearance.
- Haddenham: The Conservation Area boundary has been revised, with four additions and two removals, resulting in ten Character Areas.
- Winslow: The Conservation Area boundary has been revised with two additions and two removals, alongside minor refinements to follow plot lines more accurately. The updated Conservation Area will comprise five Character Areas.
Buckinghamshire Council's Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Planning, Peter Strachan said:
"The Conservation Areas, as set out in the updated Conservation Area Appraisals and Management Plans, give the Council a stronger framework to preserve and enhance the distinctive architecture, character, and heritage of these three towns.
"Buckinghamshire is fortunate to have a wealth of historic buildings and places, and we must do all we can to protect them for future generations. Reviewing our Conservation Areas helps us to do just that.
"There can sometimes be myths and misunderstandings about what it means to live in a Conservation Area. To address this, we are publishing a set of Frequently Asked Questions alongside the Conservation Area Plans, which I'd encourage residents to read." (external link)
