Residents in Berkhamsted could see a 20mph limit introduced on a number of local roads.
Hertfordshire County Council is proposing to extend the speed limit to 28 streets including Kings Road and Charles Street.
A recent consultation saw 84% of residents support the new scheme.
Councillors hope that introducing a lower speed limit will improve safety for all road users and reduce the likelihood of injury accidents.
