Police conclude Anti-Social Behaviour awareness week by issuing warnings

It follows proactive patrols by Thames Valley Police officers on Friday (3/07).

The Aylesbury Neighbourhood Team partnered with Bucks Highways for the patrols on Friday evening, stopping a number of motorists whose driving had caught police attention. Several were given Section 59 Warnings, given when the way a vehicle is being driven causes alarm, distress or annoyance to members of the public.

These warnings remain valid for 12 months and allow police to seize the vehicle in future, if it is involved in an additional qualifying incident.

During the team's patrols, a car meet in Smeaton Close was also located, monitored and followed to a second location outside Aston Clinton town. Officers engaged with those present and also issued further warnings and other formal interventions. Police say their visible presence helped to "prevent anti-social behaviour from developing, resulting in the vehicles dispersing and leaving the Aylesbury area".

Officers additionally seized three e-scooters being ridden illegally on public roads, which will not return to their owners. Police stressed that privately owned e-scooters do not have the same safeguards for rider or public protection as council-approved rental scooters, with the scooters seized highlighting these concerns. They say all three had significant defects with their braking systems, with one e-scooter having no functioning brake at all.

Reflecting on the evening's patrols, TVP said:

"Anti-social driving, excessive vehicle noise, and the illegal use of e-scooters can have a significant impact on local communities. Through proactive policing and early intervention, we remain committed to tackling these issues and ensuring our roads and neighbourhoods remain safe for everyone."

The patrols made up just part of the police's awareness week activities, with visits paid to areas of ASB concern across Bucks.
