Greg Smith has again raised his concerns over the construction of the new facility adjacent to HMP Grendon.
In Justice Questions yesterday afternoon, the Mid Bucks MP asked whether Prisons Minister Catherine McKinnell would reconsider her refusal to visit the construction site.
His question comes after McKinnell recently said no to an invitation by Smith to "see the issues affecting Edgcott, Grendon Underwood and Springhill Road ", which he had sent in a letter he wrote over the summer. The Prisons Minister said she's been visiting as many prisons as she can as Labour build the prison capacity across the country, and that she will endeavour to visit HMP Grendon "in due course".
Greg Smith has long criticised the building of new prison, which will house almost 1,500 inmates, having campaigned against it over concerns for its impact on the local area when it was in the planning stage back in 2021.
He has also been condemning this year the use of a country lane - Lawn Hill - for HGV vehicles and heavy traffic movements involved in construction, calling it not suitable. His current concern is also in relation to the construction process, but this time over the "deeply inconsiderate manner" in which contractors have been acting.
The Conservative MP says he's not giving up on the issue.
