The man dumped the waste in May to avoid paying a recycling centre fee.
Jack North, 28, of North Road, West Drayton, was convicted at High Wycombe Magistrates' Court on 5 August 2026 after he was found to have dumped and left waste illegally in Buckinghamshire.
The court heard that on 25 May 2026 several cardboard boxes were dumped at Trenches Lane in Iver. Buckinghamshire Council's Enforcement Team found a name and address amongst the waste, with officers then speaking to the homeowner, who explained that they had paid Mr North to remove the waste for them.
When interviewed, Mr North explained that he first tried to take the waste to the local Household Recycling Centre (HRC), but when he told he was told he would need to pay a fee to deposit the waste, he decided to dump the waste illegally.
Magistrates fined him £1,000 and ordered him to pay compensation of £316.52. A victim surcharge of £400 was also imposed, making a total of £1,716.52 to pay.
Ade Osibogun, Buckinghamshire Council's Cabinet Member for Environment, Climate Change and Waste said:
"Buckinghamshire Council has a robust stance on fly-tipping. There is no excuse for dumping waste illegally. It is against the law and offenders identified through our investigations will face enforcement action, including fixed penalties and prosecution where the evidence supports this.
"Mr North chose to dump this waste illegally rather than dispose of it properly. His actions resulted in a substantial financial penalty and a criminal record. This case should serve as a clear reminder that fly-tipping is a criminal offence and we will take action where we have the evidence to do so."
