Major roadworks to build huge new mile-long dual carriageway as more money set aside

Friday, 5 January 2024 13:00

By Charlie Smith - Local Democracy Reporter

Major roadworks to build a huge new mile-long dual carriageway are in the pipeline as Buckinghamshire Council has earmarked more cash for the project.

The South East Aylesbury Link Road (SEALR) project is the construction of approximately 1.1 miles of dual carriageway including three new roundabout junctions.

The council’s cabinet has now backed proceeding with the delivery of Phase 2 of the huge infrastructure project.

Under Phase 2, the B4443 Lower Road will be connected with the South West Aylesbury Link Road and Stoke Mandeville Relief Road.

A council report noted that the programme for Phase 2 is “extremely tight due to the requirement for the road to be open to traffic by the 1st December 2024”.

It added: “In order to meet this deadline, the council will be required to issue the notice to proceed to the contractors by February 2024.”

Cabinet also approved taking “all necessary steps” to deliver Phase 2 the release of an increase to the capital budget for the project.

This latest step forward with the project comes after work on a new roundabout on Wendover Road started in December.

The project aims to respond to the realignment of the A4010 as the single carriageway Stoke Mandeville Relief Road and Aylesbury’s future development plans.
