The Chesham and Amersham branch say the victory sends a clear message to Conservative-led Bucks Council.
The Liberal Democrats secured a victory in the by-election for Vale Ward, with Nazmeen Akhtar winning the seat with 245 votes ahead of Conservative candidate Louie McNamara's 156 votes.

Newly-elected Nazmeen alleged throughout the campaign she spoke "with hundreds of residents" who told her they "felt taken for granted" by Bucks Council.
She said "whether it's fighting for proper road repairs, protecting our precious local green havens, or supporting our High Street, I am ready to roll up my sleeves and work alongside our brilliant Liberal Democrat team for every resident in Vale Ward."
The Lib Dems say the result reflects weeks of intensive door-to-door campaigning "highlighting key community priorities including road and pavement maintenance, protecting local green spaces and allotments, and backing town centre assets like The Elgiva."
Chesham Town Councillor and Campaign Chair Thomas Pirouet added:
"This is a fantastic result for Nazmeen and for Chesham. Voters in Vale Ward had a clear choice between a hard-working local champion or a Conservative party defending Bucks Council neglect. Nazmeen ran a positive, community-focused campaign, and I look forward to working with her on the council."
Total turnout for the by-election was 29%. Other candidates included Independent Dom Breen who won 22 votes and Green candidate Ben Dornan who won 33 votes.
