Industrial action to affect Chiltern Railways services

Chiltern Railways is warning customers to check before they travel, as industrial action by ASLEF will affect journeys.

The impact that the industrial action by ASLEF, compromising of an overtime ban and one formal strike day, differs day-by-day. This is because of pre-planned engineering works scheduled to take place at the same time as the industrial action, as well as strikes at other operators.

Due to an overtime ban on Thursday 4 and Friday 5 April, a reduced service will be in operation across most of the network. There will be no service north of Birmingham Moor Street, or at some stations in Greater London. The line between Princes Risborough and Aylesbury is also closed due to HS2 engineering works, with buses replacing trains on these days.

On Friday 5 April, in addition to these service reductions, strike action at other operators means that there will be no services between London Euston and Birmingham New Street. This means that Chiltern’s reduced service between London Marylebone and Birmingham Moor Street will be exceptionally busy. For this reason, customers should only travel if absolutely essential on this day.

Chiltern Railways will not be serving the England Lionesses game at Wembley Stadium on this day. Customers are advised to use alternative options, such as the Transport for London network, to reach the match.

On Saturday 6 April, strike action on the Chiltern network means that no Chiltern services will run on any route.

On Sunday 7 April, no industrial action is scheduled. A special timetable will be in operation to serve the Bristol Street Motors Trophy Final between Wycombe Wanderers and Peterborough United, with additional services between High Wycombe and Wembley Stadium. Queuing systems will be in operation on this day.

To accommodate this enhanced service, no trains will run between Aylesbury Vale Parkway and London Marylebone (via Amersham) all day, or between Stratford-upon-Avon and Leamington Spa after 13.00.

On Monday 8 April and Tuesday 9 April, a reduced service will be in place due to further ASLEF industrial action. There will be no service north of Birmingham Moor Street, or at some stations in Greater London.

This is compounded by a strike on the London Underground network by the RMT on Monday 8 April, meaning that Chiltern services are unable to call at Amersham, Chalfont & Latimer, Chorleywood, Rickmansworth, and Harrow on the Hill on this day.

On all days affected, trains will finish much earlier than usual. Customers should check ahead before they travel on the Chiltern Railways website (www.chilternrailways.co.uk) or app.

Customers can find out more detail about how this industrial action will affect their specific station or route by visiting www.chilternrailways.co.uk/strike. This webpage contains the number of trains per hour for each route, as well as last train times.
