Buckinghamshire Council is seeking views on proposed changes to Conservation Areas in Aylesbury, Buckingham, Haddenham and Winslow.
The council has to identify places of special architectural or historical interest in our towns and villages to designate them as Conservation Areas to preserve their special heritage and character. These Conservation Areas are reviewed from time to time to determine whether further parts of the local area should be included, or indeed, whether existing parts should be removed.
Peter Strachan is Buckinghamshire Council's Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Planning. He said:
"Not only are we consulting on our approach to our Local Plan from today, we are also separately seeking views on the existing Conservation Areas in Aylesbury, Buckingham, Haddenham and Winslow. We want to know whether people think these should change or stay the same.
It all feeds into how future planning and development should happen in our county. The wider Local Plan will inform the overall approach to development and where new homes and employment should be accommodated, while the Conservation Area Appraisals will review which locations have special consideration when it comes to planning, due to their unique characteristics. Adding a property to a Conservation Area does not eliminate opportunities for redevelopment but can help to manage it in an appropriate way that recognises the heritage and special character of the area.
