A data processing error that affected the whole of the UK has further revealed the impact of the Omicron variant of Covid-19 in Buckinghamshire.
Around 40 extra deaths within 28 days of a positive Covid-19 test have been added to the 2022 data for Buckinghamshire, showing that in the last 100 days 167 people have died with Covid-19 compared to 62 in the previous 100 days.
Whilst official data continues to show that new cases are falling in Bucks, the true picture is unclear as, since 1st April, lateral flow tests are no longer free to the whole population and the results from kits purchased online cannot be reported on the Government website.
However, experts believe that around 1 in 13 people across the UK currently have Covid-19.
In England you are now only eligible for a free Covid-19 lateral flow test if:
- You have a health condition that makes you especially vulnerable to severe illness or death
- A doctor has advised you are tested
- You work for the NHS
- You work in the adult care sector

Although the Government has now lifted the legal regulations around Covid-19, the medical advice remains the same.
The NHS website states: While you’re no longer required by law to self-isolate if you have COVID-19, you should still stay at home and avoid contact with other people. This helps reduce the chance of passing COVID-19 on to others.
The advice from the NHS to avoid catching or spreading Covid-19 also remains as follows:
- Get vaccinated against COVID-19
- Meet people outside if possible
- Open doors and windows to let in fresh air if meeting people inside
- Limit the number of people you meet
- Avoid crowded places
- Wear a face mask in shops, on public transport and other crowded indoor spaces
- Wash your hands or use hand sanitiser regularly
