Commemorative Walk Set to Celebrate Ten-Year Anniversary of Thames Valley Fire Control Service

Have you ever wondered who answers the phone when you dial 999 in the event of an emergency?

Located in Calcot, Reading, Thames Valley Fire Control Service, serves as the central hub for handling all 999 calls related to fire and rescue incidents across the entire Thames Valley region, which includes Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire, and Berkshire.

Their committed control room staff work seamlessly as a team, answering urgent calls with precision and offering life-saving advice during critical emergencies, ensuring the safety and well-being of those in need. Their expertise and calmness under pressure make them the backbone of the Thames Valley Fire Control operations.

This April marks the tenth Anniversary since the Services joined forces and what a decade it has been!

To mark this major milestone, a dedicated group of 16 control room staff are carrying out a commemorative walk that will raise vital funds for the Firefighters Charity.

Event Highlights

  • Date: Thursday 24 April 2025
  • Location: The walk is set to begin at Aylesbury Fire Station, Buckinghamshire – through to Oxfordshire and be completed back in Royal Berkshire.
  • Distance: Over 50 miles!
