BuDS add more shops to their 'Fair4All Card' scheme to help disabled people

The Buckinghamshire Disability Service, or BuDS for short, have added 4 Co-operative stores around Aylesbury to their long list of shops accepting and acknowledging their Fair4All card for disabled people in the area.

Andrew Clark, Chair of Trustees, Buckinghamshire Disability Service BuDS told Bucks Radio all about it:

"We’re delighted that more Co-operative stores around Aylesbury have joined the Fair4All Card scheme. Soon, disabled people will be able to use the Co-op stores in Mandeville Road, Orwell Drive, Fairford Leys and Stone and know that staff there will immediately recognise the Fair4All Card and know how best to help them.

The Fair4All Card is a new photocard for disabled people in Buckinghamshire to make shopping easier and help shops understand how best to help their disabled customers. Buckinghamshire Disability Service issues the Cards only to genuine disabled people and we list on the back of the Card how best shops can help them. The idea is really simple: if a person presents the Fair4All photocard in a shop, staff can be sure the holder is a genuine disabled person and one look at the back of the Card tells staff how best to help. There’s no fuss, no drama, just a happy customer and a happy store.

The Fair4All Card helps disabled people by taking the fuss and embarrassment out of shopping and going out. Disabled people keep having to justify why they need things a bit differently from others and far too often you end up giving your personal medical history to complete strangers to get what you need. Our aim is that all disabled people have to do is show staff the Card – it proves they are legally entitled to help and it says what help they are legally entitled to have. All the store or business has to do is read the Card and provide good customer service for their disabled customer.

If a business or store is having problems providing facilities for their disabled customers, they can contact BuDS and we will give them support and advice free of charge. We give stores and businesses free training and support, and free window stickers, posters and other material are also supplied. Our ambition is that everywhere in Bucks recognises the Card and we are off to a great start with stores across Bucks joining, including 4 Co-op stores today."

Disabled people in Bucks can apply for the Fair4All Card.
