Bucks residents urged to help NHS go further by joining NHS Big Tea on 75th anniversary

Residents in Bucks are being encouraged to sign up for the NHS tea party.

On Wednesday 5th July, Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust Charitable Fund is inviting people in Buckinghamshire to join the biggest NHS tea party yet by hosting their own NHS Big Tea on the health service’s 75th birthday this summer.

Led by NHS Charities Together and the network of over 230 NHS charities around the UK, the NHS Big Tea brings the nation together to celebrate the birthday of our beloved NHS and give thanks to the workforce, whilst raising funds to provide the extra support needed for staff, patients, and volunteers. Communities can celebrate by making time to get together with cake and tea – another national treasure!

With new research* highlighting that 49% think more should be done to celebrate the NHS, and 50% believing the work of the NHS is often overlooked, Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust Charitable Fund is encouraging as many people as possible to get behind the NHS on this milestone year.

Now entering its sixth year, all funds raised from the NHS Big Tea can help support your local NHS charity, the Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust Charitable Fund, and help improve local health services.

Sophie Wilkinson, Fundraising Manager said: “This year on the 75th anniversary of the NHS, we want to make the NHS Big Tea bigger and better than ever.

Every penny we receive is used to enhance and transform the experience of patients and staff of Buckinghamshire Healthcare Trust. Recently Martin Hillier, Placement Consultant for the Community Head Injury Service highlighted the positive impact our Covid Recovery Garden is having on patients undergoing rehabilitation at our Community Head Injury Service at Brookside Clinic.
“The garden provides activity that keeps patients occupied and helps them build up their stamina and work-based skills.”

NHS Charities Together hopes to make this summer’s event the biggest NHS Big Tea to date, with a collective fundraising target of over £775,000. Morrisons and PG Tips proudly continue as sponsors of the Big Tea. Headline sponsor Morrisons will be launching several initiatives through the month of July across both its store and its cafés.

Ellie Orton OBE, Chief Executive of NHS Charities Together said: “NHS charities have been supporting the NHS throughout its history, funding thousands of incredible projects supporting staff, patients, and communities all over the UK. The support we provide has never been more important and, by joining the NHS Big Tea, we can all help the health service go further at what is a really challenging time.

“We’re really looking forward to seeing the nation coming together in July and raising funds as well as a cuppa to the NHS on its birthday. Our research shows people are keen to throw a tea party this summer, so why not make this your excuse!”a
