Aylesbury's Healthy Living Centre to permanently close

The Centre is the latest victim of the cost of living crisis. Chief Executive Marcela Heime has written a letter explaining the decision:

"It is with a deep sadness that I am writing to inform you that as of the 1st April 2023 The Healthy Living Centre will be closing its doors for the last time.

It has been a fantastic 20 year journey of co-working with our community, listening to their needs and responding to them with love, fun and care. In 2015 we took the decision to take on the lease of the building in Walton Court from Fairhive with the vision of become a bigger and more establish community service. Unfortunately, after 7 years of supporting the enormous cost  this building carries with it without any public or government funding, we have now reached the end of our charity. The HLC has been supported by commissioned contracts, our financial reserves and many projects which sadly don’t allow us to receive the income required to fully cover our overheads and maintain this building.

We have tried so hard to overcome so many challenges however the following reasons have made it impossible for us to continue beyond March 2023:

  • Loss of revenue resulting from reduced numbers of room bookings due to slow recovery from the Covid pandemic- reduced income in 2022 and 2023
  • Current financial crisis drastically increasing the utility costs of the HLC – increased costs in 2023
  • Loss of European funding following the UK leaving the EU, means contracts will cease in 2023 -loss of major funder in 2023
  • Restructure of Government funding impacting long term funding 2023 and beyond- loss of major funding in 2023

We cannot express the sadness in our hearts that we feel in writing this statement, we hope you can understand this has been the hardest decision and has weighed heavily on our hearts.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank each and every one of you as well as all of our  staff. We wish you nothing but the absolute best in all of your futures and thank you for supporting us as long as you have.

We would like to reassure our community and our staff that they are our main priority and we will work hard to move our current programs to other organisations to continue as many of the services as possible.

We will remain open to the public as usual until the 23rd December 2022 then we will offer some partial services until the 16th March 2023.

 Yours sincerely

 Marcela Heime

Chief Executive"
