Aylesbury recycling centre to close for four months for essential improvement works

Residents in Aylesbury are being urged to plan ahead as the town's Household Recycling Centre prepares to close for almost four months for major improvement works.

Buckinghamshire Council has announced that the Rabans Lane site will close from Wednesday 2 September, with the final day for residents to use the centre being Tuesday 1 September. It is expected to reopen before the end of December 2026.

The temporary closure will allow essential drainage improvements to be carried out, ensuring the site remains environmentally compliant and able to continue operating in the future. The council says the scale of the work means the site must be completely emptied and cannot remain open while construction takes place.

During the closure, residents are being encouraged to use Aston Clinton Household Recycling Centre, which will remain open seven days a week. Staff from Aylesbury will temporarily transfer to Aston Clinton to help cope with the expected increase in visitors. Those living to the north of Aylesbury may also find Buckingham Household Recycling Centre more convenient.

Buckinghamshire Council's Cabinet Member for Environment, Climate Change and Waste, Ade Osibogun, said the works were essential to ensure the centres could continue operating while meeting environmental requirements.

He said: "We appreciate that temporary closures will cause some inconvenience, which is why we are giving residents as much notice as possible. If you are planning any larger household, garden or DIY projects that may require a trip to the recycling centre, please consider bringing these forward before the closures begin where possible."

He added that alternative sites would remain available throughout the closure and thanked residents for their patience while the improvements are completed.

The council has also announced that Langley Household Recycling Centre will temporarily close from 9 September, with reopening expected before Easter 2027, while similar drainage improvement works are carried out.

Residents are advised to check opening times and plan their journeys before visiting an alternative recycling centre.
