Emma Reynolds MP has been appointed Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs.
Her appointment, prompted my Deputy Prime Minister Angela Raynor's resignation on Friday (05/09/25), comes as part of a broader cabinet reshuffle aimed at strengthening the government’s focus on environmental sustainability, rural development, and food security.
Reynolds, the Member of Parliament for Wycombe, is expected to spearhead initiatives addressing climate change, agricultural reform, and rural economic growth.
In her first statement following the appointment, Reynolds said she was “honoured to take on this vital role at such a pivotal time for our environment and rural communities.”
NFU Tom Bradshaw has welcomed the appointment, and urged the MP to back British farming and food security as her predecessor did. Bradshaw said:
"I'd like to welcome Secretary of State Reynolds to the role, and on behalf of 43,000 farming and growing members, I hope to meet with you as soon as possible to raise the issues that are having an impact on farming now. She is already known to the NFU having met our Deputy President last week at the Bucks Show".
