With the significant increase to fuel prices, Thames Valley Police has identified a recent surge in reports of fuel theft.
. Oil, diesel/petrol & heating fuel have repeatedly been targeted in the area.
Because of this, the Police are giving advice to prevent becoming a victim of fuel theft:
- Implement a fuel management system
- Keep the tank visible
- Reduce access points – keep gates closed & block unused exit points
- Use SBD approved standards – where gates or tanks are secured by a locking mechanism, ensure that it meets Secure by Design (SBD) approved standards
- Install an alarm – install a fuel tank alarm & monitoring system to notify you if the fuel level suddenly drops*Use anti-siphoning devices – fuel tanks should be fitted with a locking fuel cap & anti-siphoning device
- Consider a detection system – consider installing a perimeter detection system or CCTV
- Restrict access – consider the installation of bollards, which will impede vehicle access
