A total of 38 pubs in Buckinghamshire are listed as assets of community value (ACVs), data has shown.
Buckinghamshire Council maintains a list of buildings and pieces of land that have been designated an ACV.
The list celebrates sites that are of ‘value to the local community’ and gives them a special protection, which means owners can face a six-month delay when trying to dispose of the assets.
Local voluntary and community organisations and parish councils nominate the ACVs, which can include village shops, sports fields and community centres, as well as pubs.
The latest updated list of ACVs shows that High Wycombe has only one operational pub designated as an ACV – the Squirrel Pub on Squirrel Lane in Booker.
The boozer, which has an ‘amazing’ garden and offers Sunday lunches, will remain designated until July 2026.
Only one other High Wycombe pub – the Derehams Inn in Loudwater – is currently designated an ACV, with its status set to expire in 2028.
This pub currently lies derelict, however the Derehams Inn Community Group is fighting an ongoing campaign to buy it and run it for the community.
Many of the pubs listed as ACVs are located in Aylesbury Vale, however there are a few just outside High Wycombe.
These include the Boot on Chinnor Road, Bledlow Ridge; the Golden Cross on Wycombe Road, Saunderton and the Fox Country Inn on Ibstone Road, Ibstone.
