Campaigners argue it is needed to ensure safe crossing outside Turnfurlong infant and junior schools.
Since opening on Wednesday (June 3rd), the petition has already gained almost 400 signatures. Those who launched it say current conditions are unsafe, claiming that there is poor visibility, cars there drive aggressively and that cyclists as well as pedestrians are 'at risk'.
Supporters add that the issue is made even more urgent 'without a crossing guard' at the site, which they claim has been the case for more than a year. On the e-petition details, linked here (external link), they also allege that 'we have already had a child on a bike who was hit by a car'.
Adding that they are concerned about 'the visibility and safety for children in particular, who need to cross daily. An estimated 1,000+ people cross this road daily to get to one of the seven schools in the vicinity'.
The petition closes in July.
