Many local schools are travel superSTARS!

Over 50 schools in the local area have been awarded for their work in getting pupils to school using foot power during the 2019/2020 academic year.

They all have accreditation under the Modeshift STARS scheme, (Sustainable Travel Accreditation and Recognition for Schools), which encourages children to walk, pedal and scoot to school.

The scheme awards different levels of accreditation, and these are where the schools in Bucks are:

Schools at Bronze level (30):

The Amersham School; Bedgrove Infant, Aylesbury; Bedgrove Junior. To gain accreditation, each school develops a programme that:

  • Encourages pupils to be more active through cycling and walking,
  • Identifies traffic and transport issues for the school,
  • Reduces the number of cars outside the school to improve air quality and help lower the impact of school traffic on other road users.

Nationally over the past 8 years, schools with a STARS accreditation managed a 27% reduction in car use.
