Man sentenced for multiple traffic offences in Amersham

A man has been sentenced for multiple traffic offences committed in Amersham.

In a hearing at High Wycombe Magistrates’ Court last Thursday (20/7), Sebastian Nicolae Pop, aged 29, of High Street, East Chesterton, Cambridge was sentenced to 12 weeks’ imprisonment and disqualified from holding or obtaining a driving licence for a further 18 months. Pop was also ordered to pay court costs and a victim surcharge totalling £239.

Pop pleaded guilty to one count each of driving whilst disqualified, using a motor vehicle on a road without insurance and using a mobile phone while driving a motor vehicle, at the same hearing.

On Wednesday (19/7) at around 7.45pm, police officers observed Pop, using a mobile phone while driving a vehicle on Station Road, Amersham.

He was stopped by officers and tried to provide a false name. Officers uncovered Pop’s lies and his identity was confirmed while in police custody, he was reported for driving whilst using a mobile phone and arrested for driving whilst disqualified and without insurance.

Due to the severity of the offences, including his previous offending history, Pop was charged and remanded in custody to appear before court the following day where he was sentenced for these.

Investigating Officer, PC George Ward of the Incident & Crime Response team, based at Amersham police station, said: “This was another example of how proactive policing can yield positive results.

“Pop showed complete disregard for traffic laws and the safety of other motorists, at the time of this incident he also attempted to deceive officers with providing a false name. I am delighted that he has received a custodial sentence as a result”.
