Local Hospice Care in desperate need for new volunteers

Rennie Grove Hospice in Aylesbury are appealing for local people to get involved in their 'Supporting Hands Service'.

Supporting Hands was established in 2017 to offer companionship and practical support to people with a life limiting illness.

By helping out, volunteers can free up valuable nursing time and even offer respite for carers who are looking after a loved one at Rennie Grove.

Alison Raynor, Supporting Hands Co-ordinator at Rennie Grove Hospice Care told us more about the volunteer role:

She also explained what Rennie Grove are looking for when it comes to their volunteers:

Michelle Gasper from High Wycombe has been volunteering with Supporting Hands since 2020:

"The first person I supported was a bed bound man in the late stages of Cancer. I visited him weekly between September and December 2020 before he sadly died.

My main role was initially to offer him companionship to tackle his isolation, by spending time with him each week I found out more about his interests and was able to do things like print and display photos of the local countryside he loved and play the music he enjoyed.

I get so much out of volunteering and Rennie Grove is such a professional organisation to volunteer with. I feel very supported in my role, especially at difficult times such as when my first client died. I have seen first hand the difference this kind of support can make and would encourage local people to sign up and volunteer."
