Going wild in Thame

Long term plans to improve biodiversity in Thame have been announced.

Thame Town Council are embarking on a new trial to help bring back the beauty and natural vitality of the public open spaces in and around the town. With 90% of our country’s meadows having been destroyed since the1930s, road verges have become an essential refuge for pollinators and other wildlife.

At the Community, Leisure & Recreation Committee it was agreed to change the management of a number of areas to encourage natural  wildflower areas and in so doing increase biodiversity – one of the key aims of the Thame Green Living Plan.

A meeting between representatives of Thame Town Council, Charles Boundy of Thame Green Living and representatives of Chesham Town Council, provided valuable insights into the Chesham scheme launched four years ago.  Even within the first two years, the results have been very encouraging, such as orchids appearing along with a rare species of moth not seen previously in the area.

Look out for signs at the chosen areas explaining the project and where to find further information.
