Organiser Reece Wilcox says the bike would mean the world to 12 year old Doug, who has always loved cycling is no longer able to ride a standard bike.
Doug, who lives with the progressive muscle-wasting condition Duchenne muscular dystrophy, has loved riding bikes since he was 3 and continued riding a normal two-wheeled bike until he was 11, but now the progression of his condition has made that impossible.
Go fund me organiser Reece says that last summer Doug attended an accessible cycling session where he tried a hand cycle for the first time and "absolutely adored it", and now the family have a chance to buy a refurbished second-hand hand cycle with new wheels and handles - the very one Doug tried at the event.
Reece explains that with summer approaching, "there truly is no better time", adding that Doug is "desperate to join his family on bike rides again". He adds that this hand cycle would allow the 12-year-old to "keep fit, regain a sense of independence, and most importantly, be right there alongside his family.
He says the family "understand that pennies are tight for everyone with the rising cost of living" but that "any support — big or small — would be appreciated more than we can say."
