Father & Son farmers convicted for burning rubbish illegally

David and Nicholas Channer, owners of owners of J Channer & Sons, were convicted following an investigation by the Environment Agency.

The pair were caught continually storing and setting light to rubbish at their farm at Mop End, near Amersham, putting the environment at risk.

Father, David Channer, aged 67, was called 'pig headed' by the judge, for ignoring letters and warnings from the Environmental Agency. He received a six-month jail term, suspended for two years.

While son Nicholas Channer aged 47, who played more of an active role in the company was sent to prison for 13 months, including five months for breaching an unrelated suspended sentence.

Investigators made a series of visits to the farm between 2017 and 2019. They also wrote to the men, telling them to stop illegally storing and burning the waste.

The pair were prosecuted eight years ago for committing similar offences.
