Emma Reynolds has promised not to turn her back on Wycombe after being handed a new job in Whitehall.
The Labour MP has been appointed as treasury minister after Tulip Siddiq resigned from the role following an anti-corruption investigation in Bangladesh.
Ms Siddiq said she had done nothing wrong and the prime minister’s standards adviser did not find any evidence of wrongdoing.
Ms Reynolds told the Local Democracy Reporting Service she would balance supporting her constituents alongside her new City role.
She said: “Alongside my ministerial duties, I will continue to work tirelessly on behalf of my constituents.
“Since being elected last year, I have been privileged to meet so many local residents, businesses and community groups, and look forward to continuing that work.”
Ms Reynolds previously served as the MP Wolverhampton North, winning three elections with Labour before losing her seat in 2019.
She then became managing director of financial services the trade association TheCityUK.
Following her election win last year – in which she ousted Wycombe’s Conservative MP Steve Baker – the politician was reportedly favourite for the city minister role.
However, Ms Siddiq was given the job and Ms Reynolds appointed pensions minister – a role now taken over by Torsten Bell.
Ms Reynolds said: “I am honoured to be appointed by the prime minister as economic secretary to the treasury.
“I look forward to working with the chancellor to boost the critical role of financial services in driving growth across the country and delivering vital services to people.”
