Stoke Mandeville hospital has undergone a high-speed cosmetic revamp of its Emergency Department (ED) in just 21 days.
Completed earlier this month, the upgrade included new lighting, flooring, desks, radiator covers, doors and cubical curtains.
A new nurse call system was also installed, plus a brand-new staff changing room with lockers and extra storage space.
Perhaps the most important improvement though is the addition of a relatives’ room, which provides a quiet, peaceful space where difficult conversations can take place in private.
The three-week project cost around £500,000.
Mansi Patel, General Manager of the Emergency Department and Acute Medicine said: “It’s the brightness of the department and the clear line of sight from one end to the other that has made the biggest difference, along with the lovely relatives’ room and proper changing facilities for colleagues.”
