As the Lionesses countdown to their first game in the World Cup, a football club in Bucks is preparing for a surge of interest in the game.
To celebrate England's first match against Haiti in Australia, Aylesbury Vale Dynamos is organising a "Big Football Day" at their Haywood Way ground. The free training session on Saturday morning from 9am is aimed at girls aged 5-15. It will be followed by a chance to watch the Lionesses in action on the big screen from 10:30am.
Jason Savage, the Head of football at the club, believes this Summer is going to be huge for women and girl’s football. He says the Lionesses win at the European Championships last year sparked lots of interest with more girls playing and large numbers watching England in action at the clubhouse, something he thinks will be repeated with the World Cup.
Jason says he's noticed a change in interest in the game as momentum continues to build. There are now multiple teams and more clubs in Aylesbury and across the county offering the sport to girls, meaning people no longer travel out of county to play games as much as they did in the past.
