Florence Nightingale Hospice Charity has announced the expansion of its Hospice at Home service to include a dedicated overnight team, following the success of its Christmas Big Give fundraising campaign.
The Hospice at Home service provides care for patients in their final weeks and days in their own homes, delivered by a team of nurses and healthcare assistants. Patients receive the same level of care as they would in the inpatient unit, provided their symptoms can be managed safely at home. The new overnight service will allow patients and their families to receive support throughout the night. Six members of staff have been appointed to the overnight team, ensuring continuous care and reassurance. Families supported by Hospice at Home often receive several visits each day, alongside the newly introduced night-time care. The expansion has been made possible by funds raised during the Charity’s Christmas Big Give campaign in December, which generated more than £80,000. This included £75,510 raised during the campaign itself, along with a further £5,000 in Gift Aid. Florence Nightingale Hospice Lead Nurse Liz Monaghan said: “I am so delighted that thanks to the generosity of our supporters through the Big Give fundraising campaign, we can now offer a consistent night service to our patients through Hospice at Home.” The Christmas Big Give is an annual match-funding campaign held each December. This was the first time Florence Nightingale Hospice Charity had taken part, with donations coming from individual supporters, community groups, local businesses, trusts and major donors. The expanded Hospice at Home service, including the overnight provision, became effective from 2 February.
