Aylesbury Vale Police's week to tackle violence against women and girls

Last week, officers from Aylesbury Vale targeted violence against women and girls in the area.

The week aimed to pursue those who commit these offences, to make the Aylesbury Vale safer for women and girls and protect those at risk.

As well as additional officers in the area, the team also worked with Buckinghamshire Council, local charities, NHS, licensed premises, trading standards as well as local schools and universities in the area.

Activity during the week included:

Test purchasing operations with sixth form students to trial buying alcohol and booking a hotel room whilst accompanied by an older man.
After identifying two brothels in the area, these were visited and sex workers safeguarded and a closure order was enacted on one of the properties.
Visits to Registered Sex Offenders to ensure compliance with their orders.
Visits to victims who have Domestic Violence Protection Orders in place to safeguard them to check in and to offer further support and advice.
Have Your Say events held by local officers in each of the 12 neighbourhood areas to offer a chance for questions and concerns to be raised

Chief Inspector Robb Webb, Deputy Commander for Aylesbury Vale local policing area, said: “In Aylesbury Vale as well as across the Thames Valley, ensuring women and girls feel safe here is a priority for us all.

“Our week of action focused attention to make real strides in bringing those committing violent and predatory offences to justice and making spaces safer, with the support of our partners.

“We are committed to continuing the work that has been started here with our partners as well as with local residents and businesses. Only by working together will we be able to make a substantial, long-term change to those who choose to hurt women and girls and intentionally make them feel uncomfortable.”

“If there are areas in the Aylesbury Vale where you feel unsafe, we want to know about this. You can tell us anonymously by reporting online via StreetSafe. We review all reports with our local partners to identify areas that need improvement as they are causing concern to our local communities.”
