£600k upgrade to cycle and walking network in Wendover starts next week

Work to improve the cycleways and footways in and around Wendover will begin next week and is expected to take three months to complete.

It is hoped that by creating new stretches of cycleway, widening and resurfacing existing cycleways and footways, and adding markings on roads it will make it easier for cyclists and pedestrians to get around the town using a cohesive network.

Work will include linking the Amber Way cycleway, which currently goes from Aylesbury to Victory Road in Wendover, to Wendover railway station.

Additionally, there will be a new widened cycleway between Halton Lane and Castle Park Road as well as making improvements and widening along the existing cycleway between Halton Lane and Worlds End Lane. A new extension to the Amber Way will also connect the cycleway to the schools along Wharf Road.

The work represents a £600,000 investment; £500,000 is being funded by HS2 and £100,000 from Buckinghamshire Council.

Steve Broadbent, Buckinghamshire Council Cabinet Member for Transport said:

"We are committed to making it easier and safer for people to walk and cycle – especially for short journeys, and I'm looking forward to seeing these active travel scheme improvements take shape in and around Wendover over the next few months."

Work will be during the day and any traffic management on the network will be communicated via e-bulletins. You can sign up for updates about the project at: https://bit.ly/WendoverCycleway
