19 year old convicted after threatening people with combat knife in High Wycombe

Malaki Barton, of Booker Lane, High Wycombe, pleaded guilty to one count each of affray and threatening a person with a bladed article at High Wycombe Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday (6/9).

At around 4.25pm on 26 August this year, Barton confronted a group of people in KFC at Wycombe Retail Park on London Road.

Barton produced a large combat knife and threatened a man.

No one was seriously injured and officers attended swiftly but Barton had made off.

Following an investigation with the support of multiple witnesses, Barton was arrested on 5 September after trying to evade officers. He was charged later that day.

He was remanded in custody and is due to be sentenced at Aylesbury Crown Court at a date to be confirmed.

Investigating officer Detective Constable Richard Tulloch, of High Wycombe CID, said: “This was a horrific incident where a knife was used in public with adults, teens and young children present.

“Barton was quickly identified and has now been brought to justice.

“The witnesses who came forward following this harrowing incident have provided a copious amount of information which has contributed to our investigation so I want to thank them for their support.

“Thames Valley Police will not tolerate knife crime. We will continue to ensure the public is safe from those who carry knives and that offenders will be brought to justice for their actions.”
