Emma Reynolds has been promoted to one of the most senior jobs in government after being appointed Chief Secretary to the Treasury by new Prime Minister Andy Burnham.
The role makes the Wycombe MP the Treasury's second-in-command, working alongside Chancellor John Healey to oversee government spending, departmental budgets and public finances. She will also attend Cabinet meetings as part of the new administration.
The appointment marks another step in a rapid rise through government for the Wycombe MP, who was first elected to represent the constituency in the 2024 General Election.
Following Labour's return to government in 2024, Ms Reynolds was appointed as a junior Treasury minister before being promoted to Economic Secretary to the Treasury and City Minister in early 2025. Later that year she became Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, a position she held until this week's reshuffle.
Her latest promotion places her at the heart of the government's economic decision-making as Andy Burnham unveiled his first ministerial team after becoming Prime Minister.
As Chief Secretary to the Treasury, Ms Reynolds will play a key role in preparing government spending plans and helping to shape the country's financial priorities over the coming years.
