Janette Hannon covered an amazing 100km in four and a half days to raise money for the 'Odyssey Challenging Cancer' charity.
Janette, President of Winslow Rotary Club, signed up with 23 others to trek over the Moroccan Sahara and was one of nine to complete the journey in December. At the most recent count, their efforts raised £15,000 for the Odyssey charity, who support people living with a cancer diagnosis by helping them to rebuild their confidence, take control of their lives and re-engage with exercise.
Describing her experience, Janette said she and the team faced constantly changing terrain from "vast sand dunes" to "volcanic rock", "uphill climbs and challenging descents" as well as the feat of carrying three litres of water all through "the intense heat of midday sun". She explained that throughout their journey, they were supported by a medical doctor, two guides, and two camels whilst trekking and that an advance team pitched tents and cooked for them.

As someone who has been on this journey herself and experienced what the Odyssey charity have to offer, the challenge was "deeply meaningful" to Janette and is an experience "that will never be forgotten". She thanks everyone who has supported, encouraged, and donated and extended a special thank you to the Rotary Club of Winslow members. Her JustGiving page is still open for donations.
