Part of the A418 Oxford Road, Aylesbury, will be CLOSED all weekend as HS2 work continues, with the suggested diversion around 30 miles.
A stretch of the Oxford Road will be closed from the Coldhabour Roundabout to the Hartwell bend at Stone from 8:30pm on Friday (12/7) until 5:30am on Monday (15/7).
Although part of the road will remain open for residents and business access, the signposted diversion will take vehicles on a near 30 mile round trip (see the map below). Bus routes are also likely to be heavily impacted with updates via Buckinghamshire County Council.
It's the first of a wave of closures planned for work on the high speed rail line (see the list below). A spokesman for HS2 LTD told Bucks Radio;"The planned closures are necessary to safely realign the A418 across a new bridge we have built outside Aylesbury – carrying the road over the high-speed line. We recognise that this work will cause disruption and would like to apologise in advance to road users. The main closure will be during the school holidays when we know traffic is usually lighter, and we are planning some 24-hour working to help get the job done as soon as possible."
Theyhave also confirmed there will no be access for emergency vehicles, but have worked with emergency services to ensure they are properly briefed and can plan around the works.
