UPDATE: Section 60 order in place after teenager stabbed in Aylesbury

A Section 60 order has been put in place in Aylesbury for 24 hours and will expire at 3.30pm tomorrow (12/5). This happens when a senior officer believes there is a possibility of serious violence, or weapons being carried.

The order temporarily enhances powers for officers, meaning they can stop and search anyone in the area.

At that point, the order will be reviewed and could be extended further.

The Section 60 order covers the area shown on the maps:

  • Buckingham Park Estate, within the boundary of Prince Rupert Drive to the south, the A413 to the east, Martin Dalby Way to the north and Peacock Lane and Beeston Lane to the east.

  • Aylesbury town centre, within the boundary of the A4157 to the north and east and the A41 to the south and west.

Detective Chief Inspector Steven Jones, based at Aylesbury police station, said: “We have put this order in place while we carry out our investigation into this incident.

The order will give our officers extra powers to carry out stop and search activity, and has been enacted for the safety of the public.

“I understand that an order of this nature could cause concern, but while it may sound alarming, enhancing our stop and search powers provides us with another tactic to quickly identify and disrupt those carrying weapons.

“If you are stopped by an officer, please do not be worried as this does not mean that you are in trouble.

It's due to an incident that took place around 6.20pm on Tuesday 10th May, South Central Ambulance Service reported to police a stabbing in New Street.

The victim suffered serious injuries and was taken to the John Radcliffe Hospital, where he remains in a stable condition.

The offenders are described as four men and are thought to have used a taxi before and after the incident.

Detective Chief Inspector Nick Glister, based at Aylesbury police station, said:

“We are in the early stages of this investigation and there are a number of lines of enquiry ongoing.

“We are conducting house to house enquiries and there is an increased police presence in the area while this investigation continues.

“I fully appreciate the concern incidents such as this will have in the local community, but I would like to reassure people that we are conducting a robust and thorough investigation.

“If anybody has any concerns, please do not hesitate to speak to any of our officers at the scene or in the area.

“I would like to appeal to anyone with any information about the incident to please come forward.

“Given the circumstances, I believe there will be numerous witnesses before, during and afterwards so please get in touch if you haven’t already.

“Also, if you have any CCTV footage in the area or any dash-cam footage if you were in the area around the time, I’d also ask that you check any recordings in case it has captured something that could assist our investigation.

“A scene watch is expected to be in place on New Street for some time, which is likely to have an impact on residents and business owners, and so I would like to thank them in advance for their patience and understanding.”
