Tring Museum closed due to Covid impact on staff

The Natural History Museum at Tring has been forced to close its doors temporarily due to the impact of Covid-19 on its staff.

The museum says that a combination of infections and self-isolation requirements mean it will be closed until Monday 27th December, when it’s hoped staffing levels will have recovered.

In a statement a spokesperson said: “This is not a decision we have taken lightly but the safety of staff and visitors must always come first.  Please sign up to our emails and check our social media channels so we can keep you up to date with what’s going on.

“Thank you for your ongoing support, patience and understanding at this challenging time. We look forward to welcoming you back in due course.”

The private collection of Lionel Walter Rothschild, 2nd Baron Rothschild (1868-1937), became the basis of the collections housed at the Museum at Tring, located on the grounds of his family home.

In 1937 it became part of the Natural History Museum, London which includes the world-renowned collection at South Kensington.

Today there are around 5,000 specimens to enjoy at Tring, including one of the UK’s finest collections of stuffed mammals, birds and reptiles.
