Buckinghamshire Council has marked a major construction milestone in the expansion of The Kingsbrook School, as work continues to increase secondary school capacity for one of the county’s fastest-growing communities.
A topping out ceremony has taken place at the school in Aylesbury, signalling that the latest phase of construction has reached its highest point. The expansion is part of a wider investment in education infrastructure linked to the Kingsbrook housing development, where around 2,450 homes are planned.
The Kingsbrook School opened in 2022 as a 1,080-place secondary school. Its original design allowed for future expansion from six forms of entry to ten in response to population growth in the area.
The latest phase of development is being delivered by Morgan Sindall Construction at a cost of approximately £13 million. Funding is being provided through Section 106 developer contributions, Basic Need funding and support from Homes England via the Housing Infrastructure Fund.
Construction began in October 2025 and is expected to be completed by November 2026.
Alongside the secondary school expansion, a second primary school — Orchard View Primary Academy — is also under construction within the Kingsbrook development.
Both projects include sustainability measures aimed at reducing carbon emissions and energy use. The expanded Kingsbrook School building will feature solar panels and air source heat pumps for heating and hot water, while gas will only be used in science laboratories and food technology rooms.
Orchard View Primary Academy is expected to become Buckinghamshire’s first net zero carbon in operation school.
Councillor Carl Jackson, Buckinghamshire Council’s Cabinet Member for Education and Children’s Services, said the expansion was intended to ensure children could access school places close to home as local communities continue to grow.
The development will also expand the school’s science, technology, music, art, food technology and SEND facilities. Additional cycle storage is being included as more pupils travel to school by bike.
Buckinghamshire Council said the project forms part of its long-term strategy to provide modern and sustainable education facilities in areas experiencing significant housing growth.
