Aylesbury Vale Police have said it's mainly BMW's that are being targeted in this new crime which involves offenders hacking into cars digitally, without the physical key.
They have issued some advice for drivers of keyless cars:
- Keep your keys safe by using a blocking pouch (Faraday Bag). This blocks the signal.
- Turn off the Keyless Fob's wireless signal.
- Use a Steering Wheel Lock. Also consider a wheel lock.
- Park defensively - if you have another vehicle (that isn't keyless), position it in front of your keyless vehicle. This then blocks it in and makes it more difficult for thieves.
- If you have a garage, park your vehicle in there.
- Install CCTV covering where your vehicle is parked.
- Install a tracker.
You can contact the Police on 101 if you see anything suspicious in your area.
