Police confirm 'no risk to wider public' after three people found dead in Bourne End

Thames Valley Police officers at Orchard House in Bourne End on Thursday morning

Police officers at the scene of a murder investigation in Bourne End, where three people were found dead on Tuesday evening, have told Bucks Radio “there’s no one on the loose that we’re looking for.”

Thames Valley Police officers were called to Orchard House – a block of flats in Spring Gardens - at around 9:55pm Tuesday evening following reports of a disturbance.

Officers found three people deceased inside one of the flats and evidence that violence had occurred.

The deceased are a man and a woman, both in their sixties and from Bourne End, and a man in his fifties from Hazlemere, who are all known to each other.

Yesterday, residents living in flats neighbouring Orchard House told Bucks Radio that they were awoken late Tuesday night by the sound of a police helicopter circling overhead and that soon after armed police with “huge guns” were seen entering the flats.

Later on, another neighbour said that they saw people in white coats, which they thought were a forensics team, entering the property.

This morning, officers confirmed to us that the incident only involved the three people found dead inside the flat, that the violence was contained therein and “there’s no risk to the wider public.”

The flats in question were described to Bucks Radio by neighbours as “an old people’s home”. The block is run by Red Kite housing association. This morning, officers assigned to guard Orchard House were signing residents in and out of the property.

Senior investigating officer Detective Superintendent Kevin Brown, of the Major Crime Unit, said: “We have launched a murder investigation after the discovery of three people deceased within the property.

“The next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specially trained officers, our thoughts remain with them at this most difficult time.

“We are in the very early stages of this investigation and we are dealing with a very complex enquiry, which appears a targeted attack. We are not looking for anyone else in connection with it.

“We would ask anyone who may have heard a disturbance or who may have seen anyone or anything unusual in or around Orchard House or Spring Gardens between 5pm and 10pm yesterday to please come forward and call 101, quoting reference 2037 of 19/4/2022.

“A scene watch is likely to be in place for a number of days at very least, which is likely to have an impact on local residents and we would like to thank them in advance for their patience.

“Members of the public are likely to see an increased police presence while we continue to investigate and we would advise anyone with any concerns to please speak to one of our uniformed officers.”
