New Covid-19 cases rising again in Bucks

The latest Covid-19 data for Buckinghamshire shows that, along with the rest of the UK, infections are starting to rise again.

Experts say this is probably due to the Omicron sub-variant BA.2, also known as Omicron Stealth, which is believed to be more transmissible than the original Omicron variant, becoming dominant in the UK.

It is also likely that mask wearing and self-isolating has dropped off since all legal restrictions ended two weeks ago and that the vaccine effectiveness maybe waning.

There were 2,229 reported new cases in Bucks in the last week – an 8% increase against the previous week.

84 people are currently in hospital with Covid-19, which is the same as a week ago.

Sadly, six more people have also died with Covid-19 on their death certificate, the latest weekly data shows.

66.2% of those eligible in Buckinghamshire have now had their booster shot, which experts say is critical for fighting all variants of Omicron. This figure has stagnated recently.

People over the age of 12 are advised to get a Covid-19 booster shot. However, more than a third have not yet done so. You can book your booster shot using the link below.

Although the Government has now lifted the legal regulations around Covid-19, the medical advice remains the same.

The NHS website states: While you’re no longer required by law to self-isolate if you have COVID-19, you should still stay at home and avoid contact with other people. This helps reduce the chance of passing COVID-19 on to others.

The advice from the NHS to avoid catching or spreading Covid-19 also remains as follows:

-              Get vaccinated against COVID-19

-              Meet people outside if possible

-              Open doors and windows to let in fresh air if meeting people inside

-              Limit the number of people you meet

-              Avoid crowded places

-              Wear a face mask in shops, on public transport and other crowded indoor spaces

-              Wash your hands or use hand sanitiser regularly
